🚤 Evinrude / BRP E-TEC EMM Repair
BRP ended production of Evinrude outboards in 2020, but the E-TEC and E-TEC G2 installed base remains large across Canada. With new EMMs increasingly hard to source through dealers, repair of the existing Engine Management Module (EMM) is often the only practical option to keep these engines running.
❓ What Does the EMM Do?
On Evinrude E-TEC engines, the Engine Management Module (EMM) is the direct-injection engine’s control computer — it fires the injectors, controls ignition timing, and logs fault codes for each cylinder. A fault stored in the EMM can prevent injectors from firing correctly even when the fuel system itself is healthy, which is why proper diagnosis matters before condemning injectors or a fuel pump.
⚠️ Common Causes of Failure
- ✅ Water/Moisture Intrusion and corrosion in the engine compartment and connector housings.
- ✅ Internal Component Wear – injector driver and ignition circuits are a documented weak point reported by E-TEC owners and technicians.
- ✅ Voltage Spikes from charging system or battery issues.
- ✅ Corrosion on Connector Pins that produces intermittent fault codes resembling an internal EMM failure.
⚠️ Symptoms of a Failed Module
- ✅ Hard starting or engine cranks but won’t fire up
- ✅ Injector fault codes logged against one or more cylinders
- ✅ Rough running, misfire, or cylinder dropping out
- ✅ Overheating warnings
- ✅ Sudden power loss or unexpected shutdown
- ✅ No communication with diagnostic tools
If you’re seeing any of the above, mail your module in for diagnosis — with new EMMs difficult to source since production ended, repair is frequently the more realistic path.
💻 Our Repair Process
- ✅ Diagnostic testing and corrosion/water-damage inspection
- ✅ Bench testing to isolate EMM failure from injector, fuel pump, or wiring faults
- ✅ Component-level, board-level repair of damaged circuits
- ✅ Final bench validation before return
✅ Why Choose ECU Repair Doctor
- ✅ Board-level repair of units other shops write off as scrap — especially valuable now that new EMMs are getting harder to find
- ✅ Same-day/next-day turnaround where possible
- ✅ Mail-in service, anywhere in Canada
- ✅ Warrantied repair
🚗 Supported Models
- ✅ Evinrude E-TEC (all common horsepower ranges)
- ✅ Evinrude E-TEC G2
Note: Evinrude outboard production was discontinued by BRP in 2020. We continue to repair EMM/ECM modules for the large existing installed base, which helps keep these engines on the water as new-part availability through dealers declines.
